Research Path for AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle)

 



  1. I wanted to see how Automated Guided Vehicles worked and their pros and cons over manual means of material handling system

  2. I initially prompted ChatGpt to define what is an AGV and what different types there are to get a background overview.(Features and functions of an AGV).

  3. I then searched on google articles talking about the system and its pros and cons of the AGV

  4. I read about the details of the different types of AGV 

  5. We then look to compare its advantages (AGV) over the traditional methods such as needing manpower.

  6. While looking up on the "benefits of the AGV" in the google search engine, I came across an article which mentions that the AGV is able to cut cost, by saving on workplace injuries, it also mentions the statistics of the cost needed for the company to pay OSHA and the injured. This prompt me to look up the the Singapore's workers compensation via the Ministry of Manpower for this information.

  7. I looked up google regarding "SICK" brand sensors, as I know that they are use in AGVs.

  First and foremost. As the term "engineers" is very broad in our books, However to the public the consensus is that all we do is tinker with machinery or something of the sorts. It is also very hard to convey the significance of our role in society as well as the technical concepts to them if one does not have prior technical knowledge or background. This may lead to a lose in interest when conversing to the other party and they may take it for what it is.

  1. Initially we thought of making a universal plug for the EV (electrical vehicle), however we found that it was impossible to do. So I gave a suggestion for creating a adapter for the EV instead 2. I went to take pictures of the EV charging station near my house as reference to what might be the common socket type.  Updated 1/11 3.
