Critical Reflection
Module learning
The skills and knowledge I have gained throughout UCS1001 will undoubtedly play a significant role in my future academic and professional journey. By improving my vocal presentation skills and gaining the confidence to speak up in front of my peers, I have set a solid foundation for more effective communication in both academic settings and the workplace. The ability to project my voice clearly and present information coherently will serve me well in any future presentations or public speaking opportunities.
Furthermore, the practical tools I’ve learned, such as the Paul Elder’s critical thinking framework, the PEEL writing format, and the APA 7th edition citation style, will greatly enhance my writing skills and academic performance. I now feel more equipped to produce well-structured and well-supported responses, which will be beneficial for future essays, reports, and research projects. Additionally, understanding how to effectively use search engines, including AI tools like ChatGPT and Copilot, will allow me to access more accurate and relevant information, ensuring that I can stay ahead in my academic work.
The emphasis on proper punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure has also sharpened my writing skills, making me more precise and clear in my written communication. Overall, the combination of improved verbal communication and refined writing techniques will significantly contribute to my ability to succeed in future academic endeavors and professional roles. These newly acquired skills will not only support my academic achievements but also help me navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in my career..
project learning
For this project, I was assigned to be a team leader, which gave me exposure to a leadership position and allowed me to develop essential skills such as decision-making, problem-solving, and team coordination. One example of how these skills were put to the test occurred early in the project when our team initially decided to propose a Universal Adapter for electric vehicles. However, after a few weeks of research and development, we realized that the idea was not feasible due to technical and logistical challenges. As the team leader, I had to guide my team through the difficult decision of pivoting our focus to a new topic—the automated electric ramp. This change required careful consideration, open communication with team members, and an ability to adapt quickly to new information. In the end, making this tough decision strengthened my leadership abilities and allowed the team to focus on a more practical and achievable goal.
For the duration of the project the oral presentations have been particularly beneficial, teaching me various techniques to improve the overall quality of my delivery. For instance, I’ve learned the importance of proper body positioning and how to effectively hand over the presentation to another speaker. These small but crucial details have helped me enhance my performance, something I had not fully realized before.
However, one area where I still need improvement is in my facial expressions. I did not initially notice how much this affected my presentation until I received feedback on this matter. To address this, I plan to conduct mock presentations in front of a mirror, allowing me to gradually improve and become more aware of my non-verbal cues.
In conclusion, the skills I gained from this project will significantly benefit my future. The leadership experience taught me valuable lessons in decision-making, adaptability, and team coordination, which will help me in any future leadership roles. Additionally, the oral presentation techniques I learned will improve my communication skills in both academic and professional settings. While I still need to work on my facial expressions, the feedback I received has motivated me to improve further. Overall, these experiences will not only support my academic success but also prepare me for future career challenges where leadership and communication are key.
